Directors Showcase Volume Four Celebrates Music Culture in Tokyo

The fourth edition of our ongoing Directors Showcase series in Tokyo — focussing on a variety of different creative talents that exist at the intersection of music and filmmaking — took place last week on Friday, April 18th. It was held at JustAnotherSpace, a cool, Berlin-style venue located on the third and fifth floors of a 1970s building near Komazawa-dori in Nakameguro.
The theme that we picked for this year’s edition was “Music Culture.” To support this concept, we had the pleasure of interviewing five talented guest directors about the role that music plays in the creative process and the impact that it has on their storytelling. These are the five directors we featured:
- Emari Hosoya from OND
- Takumi Koyama from Three Chords
- Yuka Yamaguchi
- Dan Di Felice
- Gregory Brunkalla
The first three joined us in person and were interviewed live at the event, while the conversations with Dan and Gregory were pre-recorded and screened during the showcase.
It was a truly inspiring evening that was rich with a variety of fascinating insights on the way that music can inspire the creative process, and how filmmaking and sound are intrinsically linked.
The event brought together a really vibrant mix of industry professionals — from directors and producers to agency creatives, artists and more. It was a fantastic reminder of how music can connect us across a variety of different disciplines and creative roles. Following the talks and screenings, we wrapped up the night with drinks and a live DJ set, giving everyone a chance to unwind, mingle and continue the conversation in a more relaxed atmosphere. We believe that it was a great night and can’t wait to see as many of you as possible for the next edition.
