Work Made For Hire / Work For Hire

Refers to a contractual relationship in which a composer is hired by e.g. a production company to produce music for a production. In this case all copyright will be assiged to the production company. There is also a variation possible in which the composer retains (parts of) the copyright in exchange for a smaller (or no) upfront fee. In Europe work made for hire is not possible as legally the copyright always remains with the creator of the work and can not be assigned to another party.
