Glossary of terms – A

All In

When a client wants to use the song in a film or commercial, he typically needs rights to the recording and the copyright (the musical work), typically called sides (see also per side). All in refers to both rights combined.

Animatic

A simple animation of the storyboard to visualize the story of a commercial.

AFM

refers to the American Federation of Musicians (afm.org), a national musician’s union in the United States.

Arranger

A person that takes an existing composition, disassembles it and decides which parts is to be played by which instrument, depending on the context given (e.g. the same composition would be arranged differently for a larg eorchestra and in a electronic version). Often the job is also taken by the Composer.
