STAFF PICKS: Favorite movie soundtrack
Sometimes you have something great, but something is missing. Something that takes it to the next level. Sometimes you have an amazing guacamole; you got avocado, onion, chili and tomato. It is great. But then you add some lime and garlic salt. Now, you have something extraordinary. Sometimes, a great soundtrack is the garlic salt of the guacamole that is a movie. Or some analogy that will make us less hungry, or that at least makes more sense
We’ve gathered our staff’s favorite soundtracks and made an amazing playlist to be the background of you in the kitchen trying out that little tip you learned above.
Here’s a little something we’ve put together from our cinephiliac office to yours:
Emika
The Social Network
“I like the movies directed by David Fincher. “The Social Network” is one of my favorites. The story is good but the reason why I like this movie is the music. This soundtrack was produced by Trent Reznor(Nine Inch Nails) & Atticus Ross(who is a producer of Nine Inch Nails). It was the first career for a movie to them but it was evaluated by many awards e.g.The Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song. The music consists mainly of noises and simple piano lines and it doesn’t bother the story but makes good effect to be more serious. By this success they have worked for many movies after that.”
Ian
Interstellar
“My favorite movie soundtrack is probably from ‘Interstellar’. In general, I love all the Hans Zimmer soundtracks, but this movie there are epic scores and really emotional tracks that always gets me. In an interview Hans Zimmer said he first didn’t really know that the movie was about science fiction. The director told him to write a piece about his relationship with his son. That’s why the soundtrack is so emotional and became the heart of the movie. They explained that they used a huge church organ for this soundtrack, which needs air like humans to exhale in order to create the sound. That was really interesting and fascinating.”
Jerry
Mad Men
“Theme song for the American serie “Mad Men”. The track begins with a suspenseful intro with strings, but then features a great funky groove. This unusual yet perfect combination makes the track very unique and attractive!”
Hattie
Booksmart
“It’s hard to pick an all time favourite, but a soundtrack I really enjoyed in the last few years was the one for Booksmart. Is this largely because of the pivotal use of not one but two Perfume Genius songs? 100% yes, the scene in the swimming pool with ‘Slip Away’ in particular is impeccable. Other notable moments on the soundtrack are Lykke Li, LCD Soundsystem, Anderson .Paak and Death Grips. Back to back bangers!”
Mariela
Guardians of the Galaxy
“Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix Vol. 1 & 2 is such a blast. I am a sucker for 60’s and 70’s rock, and this is absolute fire. I could go on and on about how great it is but it’s better if you listen for yourself.”
